The sky was slowly fading into a misty black curtain, but the hubbub of the city was not slowing down a bit. Street lights were popping on everywhere, completely blocking out any chance one might have had of actually being in the dark for any extended period of time. A steady murmur of voices and vehicles rumbling through the streets could be heard through the open door as Moosh and Mei lounged against the back wall, waiting for their take-out to come through. The place was packed today, though that wasn’t unusual, and it looked like the wait might take them awhile.
“Oh! Alright, I got it. You can’t turn this one down.” Moosh burst out, as if he had just had the most brilliant idea in the world. “Enter the Dragon.” He cocked his head at her, lifting his hands just slightly in the air as if to say ‘didn’t I tell you it was a great idea?’ “C’mon, you aren’t gonna turn on that one are you? First Kung Fu film made by a Hollywood studio, last Bruce Lee film… it’s classic!”
The two had been disputing over what movie to watch with their take out for the last fifteen minutes at least. Why they hadn’t been able to decide for so long was a mystery, but Moosh was, of course, striving to have the greater pull in the matter. Looping his arm over Mei’s shoulder he gave her a little tug and a wink. “Now am I a genius or what, Mei-Mei?”
They made a funny pair, these two. After all, Moosh wasn’t exactly the typical resident of Chinatown. A Philadelphia-born African-American who proudly walked down the streets on football Sundays decked out in his Eagles jersey… It wasn’t the idea most people had when they heard “Chinatown.” But Moosh had grown up and lived here, and in a way he had a lot Chinese legends and culture shoved into his brain and becoming a part of him. But ultimately he would say he’s just your average black boy in a Chinese-American world. It made life fun.
Mei and Moosh had met as kids and been best friends ever since. Moosh still treated her, and probably would forever treat her, as his little sister, no matter that they were the same age. He had taken it upon himself to be her guardian and protector, and, as much as he could be an annoyance at times, he really loved her as if they shared the same genes. Moosh would do just about anything for this girl that he had his arm looped over. They made a good team. A comical one, surely, but good nonetheless.

Mei was licking the ice cream from the cone she'd purchased at some point while they waited for their takeout. She loved hanging out with her best friend, they were a unique pair and she adored the hell out of him. If anyone knew just about everything about Mei-Li Fong, it was Moosh. She chuckled as he moved away form the wall and announced that Enter the Dragon was going to be his movie of choice. And one she could not turn down.
Rolling her eyes towards the sky Mei took another lick from her ice cream and leaned away from the wall, shaking her head before she laughed. It was just like that. When he tossed his arm around her shoulders and made a wide gesture she couldn't help but giggle even more. If it wasn't for Moosh, Mei wouldn't have had as nearly as much fun in her life.
”Come on Moosh,” she was laughing and leaned her head back against his shoulder. Two peas in a pod they were, two very different peas in a pod. Ever since they were young, it had been Mei and Moosh. ”We saw that one two weeks ago and I want to watch Once Upon a Time in China again. That was last month and I don't want to watch the dubs again. It's subtitles this time..” Though they did get a kick out of the very bad dubbing.
Taking another lick from her ice cream cone she leaned down and looked down the street, letting her hair fall down over her shoulders. She'd gotten addicted to short hair recently, so her long locks had been chopped into a cute bob. She loved it shorter. Her eyes skimmed back up Moosh as she leaned back. ”Alright fine, I give. Enter the Dragon it is.”
With a half smile she finished off the ice cream cone and tossed it towards the garbage can, shoving her hands into the warmth of her over-sized jacket. Living in New York her entire life and she still wasn't all that fond of the cold. Normally, Moosh won. She didn't really put up to much of a fight but she would argue her point for awhile. But, that's just how it was with a childhood friend.
