nathaniel anthony cogsworth
intelligent, obedient, punctual
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Name: Nathaniel Anthony Cogsworth
Nickname(s): Nate, Nathan, Natty, Cogs, Cogsworth
Disney Character: Cogsworth
Age: 22
Birthdate: January 3rd
Birthplace: London, England
Orientation: Heterosexual
Member group: Wise Mentor
Abilty: Nathaniel has the ability to control time. He can stop, slow, speed up, or pause time for a short period, generally no more than fifteen minutes real-time.
Drawback: Usually after controlling time, Nathan is significantly more tired than before doing so, and is often disoriented. It takes a great deal of concentration and energy to actually control his ability, and sometimes doesn't work when he needs it to.
Education: Nathaniel has graduated High School with Honors and Distinction, and is now attending Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in his second year.
Occupation: Nate works part-time at the Plaza Hotel (meaning a maximum of 3 days a week, due to school), at the front desk, a job he managed to snag through connections at Columbia University while in his first year.
As a child, Nate was the chubby little kid with plump, round, cheeks that his grandmothers would pinch and poke whenever they came to visit. He wasn’t a lazy little boy that ate junk food and sat in front of the television everyday after school, he just had a problem with his metabolism. From about birth to five years of age, he had bright blonde hair, and dark brown eyes, much like his mother. As he grew older, his hair started to darken, and in contrast, his eyes almost seemed to look lighter against his hair color.
At twenty-two, Nathan stands at around six feet, not too tall, but not too short, and is quite the opposite in appearance to his former self. It seems that over the years his metabolism straightened out with a little help from a few doctors and prescriptions, and of course, a dedication to a little bit of exercise has improved his body image. Somewhat slender, he has little excess body fat, but is more lean than skinny. His muscles are average, nothing to brag about, but enough to be proud of his efforts in losing the image of himself from the past.
The young man's hair is a natural mix of light and dark brown, curly, and has seen several different styles. Experimentations with his hair has proven buzz cuts as well as messy 6-inch locks to look somewhat decent on top of his head. On the lighter side of a golden brown, Nate’s eyes are rather placid, often emotionless and stoic, small, and far from boyish. With a chiseled jaw line, and the early evidence of facial hair, Nathan is beginning to look like a polished young man.
Usually, his choice of clothing is quite proper. Nate does of course own a selection of casual comfort clothes, but when it comes to making an impression or influence, looking well put-together and suave is his preference. You could say he is kind of a geek, with a handsome undertone in his appearance. He is in no way a complete ‘pretty boy’, but sure can pull off a suit, making him good to look at. Being a Columbia University student kind of goes hand in hand with pulling off a suit and tie.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Feature: “This might sound a bit odd, but I like the shape of my face. It makes me look like a man and not a little boy. Even in my late teen years, lacking a round face made it easier to avoid the wrath of Grandma Laterneau's fingers.”
Worst Feature: “When I laugh or smile, I get incredibly embarrassing dimples on my face. And if that isn’t bad enough, my eyes get all squinty. I don’t care if certain people find it ‘cute’, I don’t like it.”
Something Memorable: Being a rather composed person, Nathan rarely smiles. When he does, it sure is a treat, because he’s been said to have a charming set of pearly whites.
Nathan is both a headstrong and sensitive type of guy. He is quite mature, and very intelligent. It seems that Mr. Cogsworth knows a lot of information about a lot of random things, which is a great conversational aspect. One thing that Nate is not particularly skilled at, is dealing with the opposite sex. Sure, he has a lot of friends that are girls, and has had a girlfriend here and there, but it seems that when it comes to knowledge about girls, he is lacking. He is a romantic at heart, but probably what you would consider 'inexperienced' with the female species when it comes to relating to them and understanding women. It is possible that the boy has issues with interpretation, because we all know that girls expect guys to read their minds, and Nate is not a certified telepathic know-it-all.
Kindness is a virtue of Nathaniel’s that many appreciate. He has the qualities of a leader, but doesn’t let power go to his head. Being an understanding person is something he tries to apply when taking on leadership roles in any aspect, because nobody likes a tyrant. He never used to be as level-headed, but years of making people angry in high school has turned him around. Needless to say, the young man does get along well with others, and hates confrontation. Not being much of a fighter, people that intimidate him aren’t faced with much of a protest. He would rather walk away than instigate a conflict that doesn’t need to happen.
Despite what some might deem as mild cowardice from the boy, Nathan is quite protective of his friends. He cares about them deeply and is a nice person to have as a sidekick when in a battle of wits. As a clever young man, he is known to be quite decent at debating any issue. His brains sometimes influence his limited dry sense of humor. Comedic comments often arise in a conversation with the boy, and occasional sarcastic words come from his natural quick-witted tendencies.
Honesty and trust are evident aspects that qualify Nate to be a worthy friend. He is friendly, and an exceptional listener, and has a sensitively tender side to his usual composure. A dedicated people pleaser, Nathan hates to disappoint. When something is asked or expected of him, it gets done to the best of his ability. Rules are his life, and are hardly ever broken. He usually tries to be very punctual, and has excellent organizational skills. Only those closest to him can ever unravel his shell of obedience to find a guy that can be persuaded to have some fun.
[/b] Nate tries to always be on time. He hates tardiness and feels that setting good impressions are key ideals to gaining anything in life.Likes: learning, friends, leadership, music, percussion instruments, coffee, tea, oriental foods, being punctual, making good first impressions, caramel, chocolate, rainy days, reading, card games, history, architecture, numbers
Dislikes: ruthless people, rude teachers/classmates, confrontation, fighting, people that lack common sense, tardiness, hot weather, condescending attitudes, girls that expect the world of him, peanuts
Positive Traits:
- Punctual:
[/li][li]Reliable: If you ask Nathan for help with something, or expect him to get something done, he won’t give up until the task is fully completed to the best of his ability. In this way, he is a very trustworthy person,
[/li][li]Good Leader: Taking on important responsibilities is something that you need to be organized for, and Nathan is just that. He enjoys being someone that people can come to for advice, or for help in guiding them towards a particular goal. Good people-skills makes him an easy person to be led by, because he tries to avoid letting power get to his head.
[/li][/ul]
Negative Traits:
- Passive: Nate would rather avoid conflict and confrontations than throw fists to solve his problems. He seems to be easily intimidated and bad at holding his own ground. Sometimes being a lover and not a fighter has its downfalls and can put you in the shoes of a coward.
- People-Pleaser: Though it is a good thing that the boy tries hard to make others happy, sometimes he forgets about doing things to make himself happy. He can neglect his own feelings when it comes down to choosing between making someone else happy, and tending to his own state of contentment.
- Not a risk taker: Nathan hardly ever breaks rules in the name of fun. He follows them and prefers to stay out of trouble. Only the closest of his friends can coax him into finding an inner love for freedom and a good time.
Most intriguing quirk(s): A rhythmic being if you could find one, Nate is a natural when it comes to keeping a beat. Often, he just can’t sit somewhere without tapping his feet to a particular rhythm of a song. When he plays his music, he gets really into it, and has perfect timing with whatever instrument he uses. He also doodles structural drawings on literally ANY scrap of paper in front of him.
Greatest Ambition: Nate dreams of becoming a successful architect after graduating from Columbia University. He has the desire to design something that people know and remember.
Greatest Fear: Like most, Nate is one of those people that cares deeply for his friends and family. If he were to lose any one of them, his life would be drastically altered for the worse. Getting kicked out of University wouldn't quite sit well with the young man either.[/font][/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]
Kristopher Cogsworth and Noémi Laterneau met via a blind date set up by their friends, and dated for six years before getting married. Kris was 27 and Noémi was 25 when they married, two years later giving birth to their only child, Nathaniel. While Kristopher was a man from England, Noémi was from France, and was living in England since the age of eighteen. They were a happily married couple with a bouncing new baby boy to share their love with.
When Nathan was five years old, the family re-located to Ireland for about six months while Kristopher pursued a job opportunity that called for the family to move. It was a job that did not last long and instead moved the family to France. Kris had trouble holding down a job that could make enough money to support his wife and child. Noémi worked as a part-time nurse when she wasn’t home taking care of her son.
Finally, Kristopher found a decent job about a year after they’d moved to France, a position as a regional sales manager for a record company. It was the job that he lucked out in finding, and has held it ever since. Having not really ever been a family that lived in luxury, they seemed to be good at handling their new amount of income. Despite the fact that they were living comfortably, they were still careful about how much they spent and were very organized with budgeting their money.
Having been a chubby little child up until the age of six, Nate was not the most popular little boy. He had few friends from having to move around so often, and only made what seemed like more permanent friendships when the family settled in France. It was a little weird for him to adjust to life in a country that sounded completely different to a little boy with a British accent. While his mother tried to teach him to speak French, he never really grasped the language completely, and sometimes had interruptions in the fluency of his words.
At one point, Nathan’s intelligence in his school studies brought teachers to offer the option of skipping a grade to be with students at his level of education. Choosing to let Nate stay with those of his own age, and with his friends, his parents did not take the offer of moving him up a level. He faired just fine being a little brighter than the other children, and had enough friends that he didn’t want to go anyway.
Even from a young age, Nathaniel showed the deepest passion for two things: music, and architecture. Having learned to play the piano as a young boy, Nathan showed a quick-learned talent in playing the guitar as well as various percussion instruments. Luckily, his parents were open to the idea of letting their son follow his own dreams instead of creating a pre-set path for his life. Eventually, after testing his luck with music through high school bands, he found his true passion was in architecture an design. Music could certainly be a hobby though, couldn't it? When he graduated from high school, he had already been looking into post-secondary schools, trying to decide on the best choice for his future. Applying to countless institutions, he was accepted to the one that had his full heart and interest, Columbia University in New York. Nathaniel was thrilled, but at the same time nervous for life away from his home. A settling influence in his decision to leave was that his life in France was just not the same as it had been in high school, as many of his friends were moving on with their lives, and he needed to do the same.
Unfortunately, a year after leaving France, Nate’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been undergoing treatment ever since, experiencing both the good and bad days that come with her illness. Nathan keeps in close contact with both of his parents and is very appreciative of his mother, feeling very lucky that she has so far lived through the cancer.
Having lived in New York since the age of Twenty, he has gone through some serious up and downs, changes, and life-altering experiences. He hopes that the future will follow the path to reaching his dreams of becoming an architect, and is very devoted to his studies.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Memory: Just before the Cogsworth family moved to Ireland, Nathan’s uncle took him to a local orchestra concert in London. The atmosphere was a completely new experience to the boy, but something he greatly enjoyed. The music was inspiring, and helped plant the love of the arts in the boy at a young age.
Worst Memory: Nathan’s first day in the first grade at school was the first time he’d ever encountered a bully. A boy in the second grade level was teasing him about how chubby he had been then, and Nate had started to cry. Trying to avoid the confrontation with the older boy, he tried to run away, only to be thrown to the ground and punched in the stomach. It was a childish case of bullying that deeply hurt the boy and created a fear of conflict in Nathaniel.
Top 3 life-changing moments:
- Moving to France: Nathaniel finally started to make solid friendships after his family moved to Paris. His father had a decent job, and his parents no longer worried about the same things they did back in Ireland. It seemed his family was settling in, and growing more comfortable in their lives.
- Noémi’s diagnosis: When Nate learned of his mother being diagnosed with breast cancer, he was devastated. It seemed to solidify his bond of appreciation for his mother, and truly made the boy value everything she ever did for him. It wasn’t that they had a bad relationship before her diagnosis, but it made Nate really realize how much he loved her.
- Acceptance into Columbia University: Nathan’s dream of becoming an architect has grown so much closer since the letter came with his acceptance to the prestigious school. Nate has met more friends and learned so much more than he ever has in his entire life. The change that came with the move to New York was monumental to him, and has ensured a great supply of hope to the young man for his future.
Family relationships: Noémi & Kristopher Cogsworth: Nathan has an extremely close long-distance relationship with his parents, who love him just the same. He is quite a momma’s boy if you had to pick between his parents.
