gerty margo smales
Cynical. Paraniod. Sarcastic
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Name: Gertrude Margo Smales. But she is known only as Gerty
Nickname(s): Gerty
Disney Character: Grumpy the Dwarf
Age: Twenty-four
Birthdate: October 11th
Birthplace: Seattle
Orientation: Gay
Member group: comic relief
Education: Gerty is both a high school and college graduate. She graduated from NYU three years ago
Occupation: Bank Teller
` Figure
Gerty is a medium sized young woman. She isn’t exactly petite, but not large at all. She likes to see herself as a good, healthy size. A size which she works hard to maintain mind you. Her torso is long, with a slight curve. Though nothing all that dramatically attractive. Her stomach is mostly flat, with a small amount of muscle. Her legs are slightly toned with long, lean muscles, from the light exercise she tries to do every day. Though, some days apathy takes over and she just couldn’t be bothered. Let’s not talk about that though.
` Features
Gerty has very light colouring. She’s fair skinned that burns rather easily. Her natural hair colour is blonde, but she is forever dying it. She gets bored of one colour too easily. She has a heart shaped face, with round blue eyes, that are rather expressive. Full lips, that often seem to be in a ‘pout’ or frown. A small, slightly up turned nose sits in the middle of her face. However what really sets her apart, is her mole, or ‘beauty spot’ if you’d rather, on her left cheek. Audrey seems to have a love/hate relationship with it.
` Fashion
Gerty isn’t exactly a fashionable person. Sweat-pants are her favourite form of clothing. She opts for comfort over most things, and is rarely seen in anything but jeans or sweat-pants. She rarely wears skirts or dresses. Her idea of dressing up is jeans and a nice top. Which can actually look rather nice mind you. She does have a slightly funky, bohemian style in the sorts of tops she wears, and some of the accessories she chooses, but it’s more like hints of flavour then anything.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Feature: “My ‘beauty spot’. It’s different, and makes me unique..”
Worst Feature: ”My mole…. It’s….annoying..”
Something Memorable:”… My mole? Ha ha ha...”
` Cynical
Gerty is a very bitter, very cynical young woman. She has huge issues being positive about anything. She is constantly seeing the worst side of anything. She’s great at making mountains out of molehills too. One tiny problem and she’s likely to be convinced that it’s the end of the world. Everything is a bad thing according to Gerty. “there is someone at the door… probably a debt collector..” or, “my phone’s ringing, it’s probably bad news..”. She really has an issue with thinking positive, the poor young woman. It’s rather frustrating to those in her life actually. Not that she cares.
` Paranoid
Gerty is prone to think the worst in things. But more then just being a cynical, angry young woman, she actually has a few slightly more paranoid tendencies. She doesn’t trust people, and always assumes everyone is out to get her. Or not so much out to get her, but more so that they will just end up hurting her so why bother opening herself up and trusting them when it all turns to shirt in the end anyway? She questions good deeds, believing everyone has other motives and that no one just does anything just because they are a nice person.. Phah!
` Sarcastic
Every the quick witted, sarcastic person, Gerty is constantly opening her mouth only to say negative, mostly mean comments. She has a hard time saying a positive comment. Even when she has a nice thing to say, it’s delivered in a snide way. She’s probably very passive aggressive really. She doesn’t get physically violent, she just uses her biting sarcasm as a way to express all her negative emotions. Sometimes she’s funny, sometimes she’s hurtfull. Sometimes both.
` Withdrawn
There are times when Gerty can be rather withdrawn, and almost like a recluse. She likes her space, and her time to herself. Some people find this trait rather off putting, as she can come off as a little closed and somewhat rude. However, she does try and explain to people that it’s not personal when she isn’t feeling particularly social, and that they shouldn’t get offended by it. She can’t help it, she likes being alone, with only her own company.

Positive Traits:
`Practical – Gerty is a practical thinker. While she likes to get lost in the fascinating worlds of books, in her own life she is completely grounded and sensible.
`Active – Gerty is a very active person. She loves activities that require physical activity. She uses the gym and jogs often, but also loves out door activities and other sports.
`Reliable – Gerty, while she can be a little scattered and restless, is a reliable person. If she says she will do something, chances are that she will get it done. She hates letting people down.
Negative Traits:
`Internal – It’s pretty safe to bet that a lot of the time, Gerty isn’t expressing everything on her mind. She has a lot of thoughts, yet chooses to keep most of them to herself… Oh, unless she’s expressing them in witty sarcastic quips that is.
`pessimistic – Gerty can be a fairly pessimistic sort of a person. Largely when it comes to her romantic life, but in other aspects too. She seems to think that things will always go wrong, and not realise when she’s got a good thing.
`In-flexible – Not so much in the strict sense of the word, but Gerty is rather inflexible when it comes to big things. She doesn’t deal with change all that well.
Most intriguing quirk(s): Gerty doesn’t like to shower. She will when she has to, but honestly, she would so happily go days on end without bathing.
Greatest Ambition: “Well, obviously it’s to be an author right? But that’s the broad idea. I’d actually really like to create a saga of young adult novels. Yes, I know it has been done a lot. There are a lot of good young reader series’ out there, but who said that we can’t have more? Reading is important for young people, and if you can get them, the hardest critics when it comes to books, hooked on your story, then you’ve succeeded haven’t you?”
Greatest Fear: “Hmm. Well this one is harder to answer. You don’t tend to dwell on your fears do you? Well at least I try not to. So I don’t think about my fears a lot. My greatest fear? God. I dunno. Alright, I have one. It sounds odd but here it is. My greatest fear is meeting my birth mother and her not fitting the image I have of her in my head. I’ve known I was adopted since I was about eight, and since then I have enjoyed picturing her and what she is like in my mind. I actually like it, imagining her. I know if I ever did meet her, she’d be completely different.”
Gerty Smales was adopted. Simple as that. She’s known it since she was eight, and it’s not really been a huge deal. She doesn’t hate her adoptive parents, she doesn’t yearn for her birth parents. She’s content just knowing who she is, and comforted by her ideas of who she has come from. It has not had any sort of a lasting print on her life, nor is she scarred by it in anyway. To Gerty it has never been a big deal. Her mother was seventeen when she fell pregnant and made the choice to adopt the child out, so the Smales were apart of the life of Gerty from the beginning, and were even at the hospital when she was born.
At first, Gerty’s birth mother had visits with the baby. However it soon became clear that the visits were not a good idea. It was confusing for the baby, and the birth mother. As, even though she knew she could not raise the child, she still had a bond with her. Gerty has no memory of her mother at all, as the visits stopped before she was old enough to remember much at all. It’s never been a secret though, in her family. Once the Smales’ felt she was old enough, they sat her down and explained how she was adopted, and that her adoptive mother couldn’t have children of her own.
Gerty’s childhood was rather good, actually. I mean, you can’t adopt a child unless you can offer the child a stable, healthy home. That was exactly what the Smales’ offered for Gerty. A happy, healthy and stable home. She grew up in an upper middle class home, enjoying the comforts of being a slightly spoilt only child.
Of course, she had always shown slightly sullen, sarcastic tendencies, but there weren’t all that bad. She wasn’t always so bitter and angry at the world. No, that happened years later, just after Gerty had finished college. Since her teen years, Gerty had known she was attracted to females, and all the way through college she had been in a stable relationship. So stable, that Gerty thought they would be together forever and all that shit. How very wrong she was.
Three days after graduation, Gerty returned to her apartment to find a note. ‘Dear Gerty. I’m leaving you.” That was it. No explanation. Stuff gone. It was… Well it ruined any chance she had at ever trusting another female that’s for sure.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Memory: “My best memory? Well, that easily my graduation ceremony. From High school… clearly. It was actually a rather proud day for me. My father gave me an amazing graduation present in the morning. While I’m not exactly a girl who wears a lot of jewellery, the small studded diamond earrings were really simple and elegant, and I still wear them on occasion, if I’m getting dressed up. After the ceremony we had a small party back home with my family. It truly was an amazing and very proud day.”
Worst Memory: “Worst memory? Okay, well it’s debatable that this actually happened.. Some people think it was all in my head (I watch too many horror films) but here goes. I was cutting through a part one night, on my way home from a friend’s house. We’d been watching some slasher film so I was a little bit jumpy. Anyway, I heard something behind me, so I turned and there was this freaky looking guy in a coat sorta lingering just behind me, so I picked up my pace and started to walk a little faster. Glancing over my shoulder every few moments. It looked like he was following me, but each time I turned he stopped walking. So I broke into a run. Luckily I’m a pretty fast runner. He either couldn’t keep up or lost interest, and stopped following me. The freakiest part? On the news the next morning they showed a police drawing of the man who had followed me! Claiming he was responsible for some obductions of girls in my area!—Wait, what? NO IT IS NOT JUST A COVER FOR MY ACTUAL WORST MEMORY WHEN MY LOVER LEFT ME. PISS OFF.”
Top 3 life-changing moments:
---kissing a girl: From a young age, Gerty knew she was different. She never felt any attraction to boys. No. Instead she found herself liking the smooth, softer edge that girls had to offer. When she was thirteen, Gerty had her first kiss. It was with a friend of hers. They were camping with their parents, who were friends, and the girls had just been swimming and were laying on the banks of the lake. On impulse, Gerty just sat up a little and kissed her.
---loosing her lover: She wont discuss the affects it’s had on her life, but it has indeed had a profound affect on the woman. It’s the seed of a lot of her un-resolved anger and trust issues actually. Something, perhaps the small amount of positiveness Gerty had, died the day her lover left without an explanation. She’s not had a healthy relationship since.
---buying her own place: Sure, her small little apartment isn’t anything flashy, or special.. and she only payed it off completely six months ago, but it’s hers and that’s awesome right? Well, lets just hope it doesn’t burn down…
Family relationships: The Smales: Gerty is… somewhat font of her parents. Well fine, rather fond but since college she’s kept them, like everyone, at a distance.
