jocelyn colette esmeralda
fearless, mysterious, passionate
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Name: Jocelyn Colette Esmeralda
Nickname(s): Jo, Joce (Joss), J, JC
Disney Character: Esmeralda
Age: 23
Birthdate: February 8th
Birthplace: Paris, France
Orientation: Heterosexual
Member group: Sex Symbol
Abilty: Mesmerization - Jocelyn has the ability to fascinate people, almost to the point of being hypnotized.
Drawback: She cannot mesmerize animals, and it is more difficult to mesmerize large groups of people than to have the effect on just one person. It takes a physical toll on her, and she is usually very dizzy and tired after using her ability to mesmerize for an extended period of time, or on more than one person.
Education: Graduated from Brooklyn High School of Arts
Completed two years at New York University and is taking the first semester of her third year off.
Occupation: The Front Room - Jocelyn works part-time at the contemporary art gallery as an information guide.
Jocelyn is your classic African-American girl with a flare. Both sides of her family come from long lines of mixed heritage, mainly of Hungarian, African-American, and French descent. Such a wide range of descendants in the Esmeralda family is certainly the source of her unique beauty. With the majority of her attributes similar in appearance to her mother, she stands to be an attractive product of her parent’s good genes.
Having always been a mature looking young woman for her age, the girl has a generously curvaceous and developed physique, which for some, provides something nice to look at. Being a dancer, the girl is fit and slender, with hardly any excess body fat, and toned muscles in the appropriate places. Years of avid athleticism and passion for dancing has given the girl a considerably tight stomach, and a set of muscles that the girl is proud to have built upon.
The girl has a naturally dark tan skin color, which is obvious to her genetic heritage, being part African-American. While her hair is long, full, curly, and dark brown/near black in color, it seems to take on a whole alternate appearance when in different light. It’s kind of like one of those cars you see with a paint job that has a different color from every angle. In contrast to her dark mass of hair, her eyes are a crisp light turquoise blue, with a dark shade in a ring of definition at the outer edges of the iris. Dark, defined brows frame the unique cat-like shape of her eyes, accenting her sharp, yet smoothly composed facial structure. The girl’s jaw-line is not your general baby-face, or round like many her age, but is strong, and evidence of her early features of a mature young woman.
Height has never been something to challenge the Esmeralda family, leaving Jocelyn standing at just under six feet, 5’11”. Often referred to as an amazon beauty, her stature is something that has both brought about benefits to her, as well as been something to hinder her. Teasing and mocking were of course small side-effects in the girl’s childhood. Being nearly a foot taller than some of the other kids didn’t exactly prove to fend off titles like ‘giant’ and ‘freak’.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Feature: “I’m quite proud of my ab muscles. You just don’t get such a tight looking stomach without working at it. I’m happy that for me, dance is both a passion, and something that keeps a girl healthy.”
Worst Feature: “If I really had a choice, I wish I could lose a few inches in height. Sure, I love being different, and sometimes being tall has its benefits (I can reach just about anything I want), but I can tell that a lot of people don’t like it when they’re walking in the shadow of someone next to them.”
Something Memorable: Jocelyn has a kind of striking beauty in her face that people say is unforgettable. The shape of her eyes is rather majestic, a feature that can both charm, and captivate whomever she speaks to.
Jocelyn has never been your absolutely bubbly female with a thousand friends and boyfriends. Somewhat of an unusual girl, she’s found that she isn’t a total outcast, nor a complete social butterfly. Friendship is something that is earned with Miss Esmeralda, and she is friendly as can be, but total trust that goes deeper than just being nice is something rare. One that puts the effort into developing a bond with Jocelyn should appreciate being in her tight circle of trust, for it doesn’t reach very far, and is valuable to those that find their way inside. You might think that the young woman is full of sass and attitude that masks her true personality, and you would certainly be correct.
Kindness is an attribute with Jocelyn’s personality that lives alongside her friendly nature, and good heart. With a strong identity, Jo has a well-developed conscience that aids her in creating social relationships with others. Optimism comes with the odd moment of pessimism, but makes the young woman quite good at having a high emotional intelligence in dealing with people. She prides herself in being skilled at being able to draw a best friend out of his or her shell, and to put a little light in their life.
Independence is a way of life that Jocelyn is too familiar with. Depending on other people has constantly proved to both be good and bad, so Jocelyn has taken to adapting a learned life of being responsible for herself. It has never really been difficult for the girl to exist without close one-on-one relationships with her parents, or at least no one sees that it is. If she wants something, she’ll earn it. If she needs something, she’ll satisfy it. Not many have ever shown her that they can be reliable people, so her choice is not to rely on anybody but herself. While others may not be capable of honesty, loyalty, and reliability, Jocelyn can very well be every one of those when she wants to.
Confidence is probably one of the most important aspects that Jocelyn applies to herself. Without it, she wouldn’t be the strong-willed young woman that people know her to be. She has a tough personality, and a backbone that enables the word ‘coward’ to be completely eradicated from her vocabulary. Jocelyn stands up for justice, and what she believes in, and has no tolerance for people that try to take that away from her. She doesn’t preach her way of life upon anyone else, and has respect for people that make their own choices. Protective of her own ideals, as well as of those around her, Jocelyn is not the type to stand by and watch someone defeat the dignity of another. Much due to her kind heart, she is the kind of girl that would help a stranger on the street, whether they asked or not. Even with a strong pride in herself, she tries to be non judgmental when it comes to others.
A Jocelyn without an attitude would definitely not be the same as one with such a flare in her personality. She has a heart and she has a conscience, but if she didn’t have an attitude that helped keep such a tough will instilled in her personality, she would never accomplish anything she wanted. Jo can bring a positive and negative attitude to any situation, and depending on mood, you’ll most usually find it to be positive. Piss her off, and you’ll be faced with an inner fire that intimidates and presents a challenging opposition.
Manipulation is attached to being independent. Jocelyn gets what she wants, when she wants it, but not completely in a ruthless nature. Her ability of mesmerization certainly helps. If she wants an apology, she’ll get it. If she wants compensation for something she’s done, she’ll have it. And when it comes to something or someone she is interested in, her deceiving and clever nature will strive for a favorable result. If her kindness doesn’t drive down a great path, Jocelyn has no fear of applying a hard to avoid method of manipulation.
Wit and humor make Jocelyn a person that people quite enjoy having around. Her words are clever and full of intelligence, a quick-witted weapon in a battle of minds. With a dry sense of humor, sometimes it is a little hard to tell if she is really joking or if she is serious. As a result, the girl can aid the interpretation of the sarcasm in her words with a contagiously pleasant laugh.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Likes: dance, music, men, jewelry, stylish clothing, warm weather, spicy foods, cats, friendships, honesty, children, reading, wandering
Dislikes: immature boys, arrogant rich kids, cold weather, loneliness, oppression, ignorant adults, closed-minded people, unrealistic expectations, limitations, petty rules, pineapples
Positive Traits:
- TRUSTWORTHY: Jocelyn is a great person to talk to because she can keep secrets. When others trust her enough to share their business with her, she protects it and keeps the information as if it were as precious as her own. If you ask her to do something for you, she is someone that you can rely on to follow through.
- FRIENDLY: Her first instinct is to be nice to people. Labels and ignorant judgments are something that other people may choose to live by, but Jocelyn does not. If you’re the outcast kid with no friends and an unpleasantly hideous choice in clothing, there is still potential that upon meeting Jocelyn, she’ll befriend you anyway.
- DETERMINED: Giving up on a goal, or giving up on a person is a highly unlikely choice for Miss Esmeralda. Jocelyn has a strong will and dignified presence that she uses in reaching her goals. Present her with a challenge and she will complete it, whether she wins or loses.
Negative Traits:
- STUBBORN: Though Jocelyn applies an open mind to most things, it is her own beliefs that she will always stand for when they are challenged. Sometimes such dedication can paint her in a bad light to those that see the lengths she will go to in order to protect ideas or people that she holds dear.
- DECEIVING: If Jocelyn doesn’t want someone to know exactly what she is thinking, they will likely see and believe in her opposite behavior. When she has the choice, the girl can be an exceptional liar, but only in the most necessary circumstances.
- MANIPULATIVE: Sometimes Jocelyn has a tendency to forget that when she is in the midst of manipulating someone to reach a certain goal, there are people that can be affected in a negative way. The girl has lost friendships getting carried away with her determination to achieve a certain goal.
Most intriguing quirk(s): Whether she is upset, or just thinking deeply, Jocelyn has a weird tendency of pressing her lips together or tapping her fingers to them, a give-away in her behavioral appearance that she has to hide when applying a deceiving ploy to her personality.
Greatest Ambition: Jocelyn’s dream is to be successful in maintaining her passion for dancing. She has an ambitious goal of becoming a professional, an icon that young audiences enjoy watching.
Greatest Fear: Considering her passion is dance, Jocelyn fears losing the ability to do so. An injury that takes away any hope of fulfilling her dreams would be the worst thing that could happen to her. Nearly ranking at the same level, Jocelyn would hate to lose someone close to her, especially her father.
Francis De Monte and Colette Esmeralda met while in their early twenties, pursuing a passionate love affair that never brought a marriage to their relationship. The two had a short-lived, year-long romance that separated Francis from his wife, and left the man with a daughter. After the birth of Jocelyn Colette Esmeralda, her young and naïve mother left Francis to take care of the baby, off to satisfy more selfish endeavors. Jocelyn was only two months old when her mother left her. Francis had both a broken marriage that he was trying to repair, and a new baby girl that needed looking after.
As Jocelyn lived out her childhood with only her father, she was constantly left with questions of who her mother was. At the age of fourteen, Colette made a brief appearance in Paris where she agreed with Francis to meet their daughter. It was a tense meeting, with subdued feelings of contempt in Francis, and obvious feelings of carelessness from Colette. She was in no way interested in developing the mother-daughter relationship that Jocelyn lacked. That was the last time that Jocelyn or Francis ever contacted the frivolously irresponsible woman.
Jocelyn seemed to accept that she was better off without having Colette in her life. Though she experienced times that a motherly piece of advice would far surpass the advice coming from her father, Jo was kind of at peace with her parental situation. Francis was kind to her, and very considerate, but not the kind of father figure that ever really presented an ideal relationship. Jocelyn was often found having to do things for herself, because Francis made the effort, but really never succeeded at being both sides of a parental unit to the girl.
Friends were scarce, and the few that Jocelyn did make were close and long-lasting relationships. She had a hard time meeting new people and immediately developing a tight bond with them. Friendliness was always evident, but never quite extensive enough to the point that she found a need to trust or rely on them. Sometimes Jocelyn was casted aside as abnormal because of how tall she was, as if her height was too unusual for her to be someone others would normally spend their time with.
Shortly after the first and last meeting with Jocelyn’s mother, Colette, Francis decided it was time for a change. His idea to fix the marriage with his first wife was proving to be hopeless, and he wasn't prepared to waste the rest of his life trying to fix something that couldn't be fixed. Scraping up enough money to be able to accomplish a move to the United States, he presented the idea to the fourteen year old and found that she was extremely pleased. Though Jocelyn would be living somewhere completely new, she was not worried. The girl was kind of used to not getting attached to things.
Having always attracted the desires of guys both older and younger, she was faced with a whole new population to make an impression on, and a few did in fact attract desires from the girl herself. After being enrolled in the Brooklyn High School of Arts, she proceeded to make her mark, no matter how insignificant it may have been. She made and lost new friends, had a whole lifetime of different experiences, and tried her luck with a few different boyfriends. Jocelyn adapted quite well to her new surroundings, and found that her relationship with her father still hadn't changed much at all. He'd found a new job in brooklyn at some music studio, and was just as scarce as he had been in France.
After graduating from high school, Jocelyn took a year off to travel with her father for a while. It was full of great bonding experiences, along with hardships, but proved to mature the girl quite a lot. When she returned to the states, she applied to NYU and was accepted early. Though she was interested in many of her courses at the school, the ideal dance career she'd always dreamed of did not seem to be working out so easily. Her first two years of university were met with a rollercoaster of emotions, and an inner conflict that she struggled to keep under control. Was she doing the right thing? When would her dreams come true? Was it time to pick another dream? She didn't know. Therefore it seemed necessary to take time off for her first semester of her third year to explore her options and find a little piece of hope, somewhere, somehow.
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]Best Memory: When Jocelyn was six years old, her father took her to see a group of street dancers that put on a weekly performance near where they lived. All of them were so captivating, and graceful in their dances. The young girl was so enticed by the dancers, they even picked her from the crowd to come and dance with them. It was a cultural display of a unique art that solidified a passion in Jocelyn at a young age.
Worst Memory:At the age of eight, Jocelyn experienced a terrifying situation after one of her dance lessons. Francis was extremely late to pick her up and the girl began to get frustrated, annoyed that he’d forgotten. Hours after the lesson, her instructor had gotten a call from the girl’s father, apologizing for not being there. He was in the hospital after being hit by a car. Jocelyn was so afraid that she was going to lose her father, and kept thinking that even though she wasn’t extremely close with him, it would be dreadful to lose the man. Luckily, he was not badly injured, and Jocelyn did not have to see her fears met with truth.
Top 3 life-changing moments:
- Meeting Colette: When Jocelyn was fourteen and she met her mother for the first time, she realized that the woman was not any kind of human being that the girl would ever want in her life. She seemed to be accepting of the fact that Colette being completely unattached to her life was a good thing, and inspired the strong personality in the girl that exists today. To be like her mother would be one of the worst decisions that she would never make.
- A new life: Francis surprised Jocelyn with his proposal to move to the Univted States, and the girl was thrilled. It was a drastic change that both relocated her life and her dreams, making her ambitions that much more realistic. New York certainly offered a lot of opportunity to pursue her dance dreams.
- Loss or Gain?: One night in her first year at the Brooklyn High School of Arts, when enjoying herself at a party with friends, Jocelyn broke out into a rhythmic display of a tantalizing dance in front of an intoxicated audience. The males were quite obviously amused, and some of them even tossed coins at her feet, encouraging her to continue. One male in particular praised her dancing so much that he earned himself the company of the girl with a drink in her hand. What she lost that night was something the male had gained from her, a completely new experience for the girl. The affections of men have always been easy to gain, but sometimes Jocelyn wonders if the kind of desires she attracts are really worth what she does.
Family relationships: Francis De Monte [Father]: Jocelyn loves her father and appreciates him, but does not hold a tight relationship with him. If anything, they’ve grown further apart since Jocelyn has gotten older.
Colette Esmeralda [Mother]: Non-existent in Jocelyn’s life. Jocelyn would like to keep it that way.
Jacques De Monte [Half-brother]: Jocelyn is on good terms with her half-brother, Francis’ son from his marriage before Jo was born. The two keep in touch through e-mails and phone calls, as he still lives in France.
Jocelyn was not the kind of girl who was utterly opposed to dining alone. In fact, she'd done it many times. Sometimes it was enjoyable to indulge in a meal by yourself, and earn a little peace and quiet to think about things. It wasn't that Jocelyn never had anyone to share a mealtime with, but she was always incredibly independent. If her roommates didn't feel up to going out for dinner, it didn't matter. Jo would go anyway. Tonight, she wasn't exactly dining out by herself, she was actually just picking up an order at the Wheelhouse. She would likely consume it later back at her dorm, or seek out another place to sit and enjoy some fish and chips. Since it was Friday night and there was no school to dread the next day, Jocelyn was up for wandering about Howth, simply to find something other than school to occupy her mind with.
The youth sat in the lobby of the restaurant on the edge of a long cushioned bench designated to those waiting for a table, or for pick-up orders. Wearing a light blue, wild-print top, and a pair of dark washed blue jeans, she successfully pulled off a rather stlyish, yet maturely composed outfit. Having accessorized it with large blue hoop earrings, a twisted metal necklace, and a pair of black high-heeled shoes, her look appeared authentic, and original to the signature 'Jocelyn' style. She prided herself on having a fashion sense, but a rather low-maintenance attitude about it. Needless to say, she tried to be well-rounded in almost all aspects of her life. Key word there, try. Nobody is perfect.
While the girl absently listened to the hustle and bustle of the interior of the restaurant, she peered into the small fountain next to her, counting the mis-matched coins in the bottom. As a child, she remembered being scolded by her father plenty of times for trying to scoop up the money littered on the floor of any wishing fountain she came across. How can one deny the desire to pick up shiny coins that seem to be strewn out carelessly and beg to be picked up? Jocelyn never really learned the point of throwing coins into a pool of water until her early teen years. Perhaps the simple pleasure of a wish come true was what convinced her of the powers of the wishing well?
Her distant recollection of a few fond childhood memories were soon interrupted by the obvious bickering between a young couple standing near to her. It sounded as if the male was criticising the girl for her tardiness earlier in the evening, and jumping on every chance he could to throw an insult her way. Frowning, Jocelyn folded her arms across her chest and listened more intently to the couple as they argued, becoming more and more disapproving of the male's attitude. Clearly, the two were not aware that people within arm's reach could hear their entire conversation.
Despite not knowing the two strangers she was eavesdropping on, Jocelyn was not one to stand for the mistreatment of others, and especially another young woman. She considered saying something in defense of the young girl who was being patronized by her boyfriend, but decided that it would come off just a little too intrusive. Glancing around, Jocelyn noticed a small child sitting next to her, staring at the arguing big people with eyes wider than the moon. Maybe she could convince the child to pull off an innocent plea of silence to the couple? Nah. The kid didn't look like he could comprehend her ideas, especially now that a plastic action figure had stolen his attention.
Pushing a curled tendril of hair behind her ear, she cleared her throat and prepared herself to say something to the couple. Before she could open her mouth to speak, a voice caught her attention.
"Order up! One Chef's Fish & Chips for Jocelyn."
Ah, that was her cue. A spontaneous plan came to mind just as she heard the server call out her order, and a devious smirk crossed her face for nearly a split second. Crossing her feet, she stood rather abruptly and purposely swung her foot out in front of her as if to gain balance, only to "fall" into the side of the disgustingly rude young male she had been plotting against. A shout and a splash later, he was sitting in the fountain with a very irritated expression. Jocelyn pretended to act like it had been a mistake, and apologized... rather insincerely. The poor young girlfriend seemed to force back a laugh as she stood and looked down at her boyfriend, with his pants soaked and ego quite humiliated.
"I must've tripped! I'm so terribly sorry..." Jocelyn explained, refusing to offer the male a hand up. Turning on her heel, a pleased grin crossed her features and she approached the server holding her meal. "Not really." she muttered to herself, as if to retract the 'apology' she'd just issued to the boy with his ass in the fountain. After paying for her food, she thanked the server and proceeded to the exit of the restaurant, passing the disgruntled victim and offering a secret wink to the silently delighted girlfriend. That genius little maneuver could certainly be considered her good deed for the day. Exiting through the doubled glass doors of the building, she clutched the box of fish and chips in her hand, laughing to herself. Success.
